This past Saturday, I was out and about running my usual
errands when I met Tony. He was hanging
out by a stop light near a shopping center. Tony is homeless.

Because of the area of Sarasota in which I work, I do run
into quite a few homeless people almost daily. Usually they are very appreciative of anything you can give them. I could tell Tony was different from the time
I pulled up to him. He was so happy and
grateful – Even when people drove right by him! I handed him a gift card and a
list of places that help those in need and he looked me straight in the eye and…
(the conversation continues below)

Tony: Thank you – God bless you

Me: God bless you too!

Tony: My name is Tony, I go to church every Sunday.

Me: Great! So do I!

Tony: I go to St. Thomas More, where do you go to church?

Me: The Tabernacle on University Parkway

The light turned green so I had to go but he shook my hand
and said, “I’ll say a prayer for you today Tiffany.”

If you look back through the above dialogue, you’ll notice
that I never told him my name.

I’ve always thought that I would have an encounter with an
angel – I can’t tell you why. But I
actually mentioned it to my brother a few days before this happened. I told him that I just felt like that would
happen to me at some point in my life. Maybe this was one of those times.

Trust me, once I realized the name thing, I looked down to
see if I was wearing something that said my name – Nope. Looked around the car – Nope, nothing. Did I give him anything with my name on
it? No again.

Regardless of whether Tony was an angel or a man,
I was blessed that day. Whenever we help
someone in need – be it family, friends or strangers, we should always do it out
of love, not out of duty. Jesus says in
Matthew 25: 35-40, that when we feed the hungry, give a drink to the thirsty, or
clothe those who are naked, it’s like we’re doing it unto Jesus himself.

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing
some people have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13: 2 (NIV)

(5) I am selling Threads of Hope
Bracelets
as a fundraiser towards my support account. Threads of Hope is a
livelihood project to bring help and hope to families at risk in the
Philippines. Their purpose is to keep Filipino families from having to
resort to self-destructive means of providing for themselves (like
prostitution), and to give them a future and a hope by providing a market for
their home businesses (in this case hand-made bracelets). A portion of the
proceeds will go towards my World Race support account and the remaining funds
will go towards Threads of Hope. The bracelets are $2 each or 3 for
$5. I will be selling these bracelets through the end of December. I
will ship bracelets with a minimum $5 purchase. Click here
to e-mail me if you are interested in making a purchase!   To
