Over the course of 3 days, my squad and I have bungee jumped
145 feet off of a cliff into the Nile and
rafted across class 5 rapids down the river. It’s been amazing,
life-threatening at times…but absolutely amazing. This is one awesome part
about being on the race.
Somebody asks “What did you do this morning?”
My reply ” Oh, I just jumped with a cord tied around my
ankles 145 ft to the river below and dipped half my body in the NILE!” This is
normal for a world racer. That’s so weird to me.
Anyway, white water rafting a class 5 river with no
experience is also terrifying. The first rapid we came to, our whole raft
flipped over and I went floating down the river until a kayak rescued me. Then I
flew out a second time and just as I was coming up for air, my boat with about
6 people still inside ran over my head…I thought I was going to drown for a
slight second. In total I flew out of the raft 3 times and got pushed out
twice. Overall, it was an amazing experience. Halfway through we got to stop
and eat the best lunch on the race so far. It was a sandwich with wheat bread,
salami, ham, guacamole, tomatoes, green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, and potato
salad. The most American thing so far! I loved every minute of it and would go
again right now. Here are a few pics for your pleasure:
