The depravity of mankind…I’ve heard it today. I’ve heard it
through Piet and Pita Buitendijk from the Netherlands who run a children’s home
in the hills of Uganda. They have been missionaries for 15 years at Noah’s Ark (http://nacmu.org/) in Uganda where they take in
abandoned kids and transform nobody’s into somebody’s. They take in children
who were thrown away in trash bags…picked up by city police or probation
officers and reported as usual news. People have become almost immune to
it…these little gifts and blessings that God has brought to this earth,
discarded like yesterday’s trash. It’s horrendous. There is evil in this world.
And that is why there is great need for love and action. People need to see the
world through God’s eyes and not be okay with it. I’m tired of hearing how
depraved humanity is…how we just sit by idly as things happen. It’s not
everyone, but a majority of people. I
was caught up in this epidemic not too long ago and I never want to be there
again. I never want to feel satisfied and go back to my comfortable life. I am
working for God. I want to love those people that have not known love. I know
I’m not perfect. I’m very far from it. But I can still be used by God. I want
to be used by God fully…not just through mission’s trips here and there.
Piet and Pita get it. They understand the Bible and live out
the hope and love they have for Christ. They have literally transformed
hundreds of lives by being 100% committed. Through them, God has constructed an
entire community for these children to grow up safely. These kids get to
experience family, and learn that despite their backgrounds, they are still
wanted and useful in the world. God doesn’t want 10% of you or what you have.
He wants all of it. He wants all of you to be fully committed. Not to separate
God and your lifestyle any longer. God wants you to incorporate him into all
things. He has good things in store for you…an armful of goodies just waiting
to be handed out to his labor force. Amidst the evil in this world, there is
still hope. There is still a chance for these kids to grow up and change the
world around them. I want to live with this in mind. That God has to fight evil
in this world, and he is still good regardless of circumstance. He does not
willingly afflict his children and he grieves when we run from him. God just
wants you. If you are willing, amazing things can happen and lives can be
transformed just like these kids in Mukono, Uganda. Just imagine if all of us
were as committed to be used by God as Piet and Pita. I’m not saying everyone
is called to move out of the country and start their own children’s homes. God
can use you right where you are. You just have to be ready to fully commit.
“Every good and
perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through
the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first-fruits of all he created.” James
1:17-18
