Pill Popper

I feel like a 90 year old woman who has to pop 50 pills a
day to keep from keeling over….well maybe not exactly. This past week, I took
my first trip to a hospital in a foreign country. It was an interesting journey
because after each part of the visit you had to go find the cashier and pay
(i.e. See the doc, pay 500 shillings). Over a course of three days, my entire
team of 6 plus our squad leader landed inside an African hospital run by
Egyptians. The first one to get sick was Nikki, and she came back diagnosed
with Typhoid. Then the very next day, 3 others; Tricia, Keri, and Gina were
feeling horrible and two of the three came back with Typhoid as well. Tricia
may have mono…not so sure. SO on the third day, Cass, Aimee, and myself decided
to take precaution and get tested for Thyphoid. And guess what? Cass and Aim
both have Typhoid. I do not.

BUT, I have something else called Brucella. Whatever that
is…I’ve never heard of it. Supposedly it takes 6 weeks to kill and if it goes
untreated the bacteria can attack the bone and create painful cysts. And I got
it from eating meat that wasn’t cooked at a high enough temperature or milk
that hadn’t been boiled. My first thought was…”AHh Great.” SO I’ve turned into
a pill popper. *I have to take about 6 pills every meal for a month and a half.
Oh well, at least I won’t have nasty cysts growing on my bones.

Oh AND then…our host, Pastor Joseph tells us about this
vivid dream he had. It was about a witch doctor that lives down the street who
was trying to attack us by cursing us with sickness. This sounded a little
crazy to me at first, but I believe that spiritual attack is real and Satan
must be scared of what our team is accomplishing here in Kenya. So please keep
us in your prayers. We believe that God is doing amazing things through us here
in Southlands, Kenya and sickness can’t stop God’s will.

“For I am convinced
that neither death, nor life, nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor
any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will
be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38

*(one of the side effects of this pill called Rifampicin
will supposedly turn all of my bodily fluids reddish…even my tears.)
