A lot of changes have
come my way as I entered into Cambodia on the fourth month of the race. At the
beginning of the month my squad went through many transitions. New squad
leaders were pulled up and teams were switched. So I am now on an all girl’s
team with 5 other amazing women from all different walks of life. The
transition to leave my old teammates was a rough one for me, but I know
ultimately God has growth in store for me. I have been extremely blessed the
first 3 months of the race with great teammates and a unity that could have
only come from God. So I know that God has brought new people into my life for
a greater purpose. I am excited to get to know my new teammates on a deeper
level and I have already seen how God is working in each of us this month. Being
with 5 other women has brought a different dynamic and so with change comes a
new identity and new name. Our new name is SPARE RIBS. We decided on this name
because God created woman out of Adam’s rib and created something so ordinary
into something glorious. We know that God is using us right now in our ordinary
and creating something amazing in his kingdom.
I think it’s funny
sometimes how God has a sense of humor. This month, my team of 6 girls is
working in a ministry with 26 men who are recovering from drug addiction and
alcoholism. We are working at a home called Teen Challenge in a small village
about an hour and a half from Phnom Penh. We call the town “Jesus Mountain”
because there is this giant mountain behind teen challenge and the name sounds
similar to “Jesus” Even though there is a language barrier, God has really
shown me his character through these guys. I would have never guessed the
backgrounds of these men by interacting with them. They represent true
gentlemen. The guys are so eager to prefer us when we visit and treat us like
royalty. They love learning English and bible studies and are some of the most
chivalrous people I have met. God has been using them to encourage me and lift
me up through their powerful stories and laughter they share with us. There is tremendous competition for the hearts
and minds of these guys, but I can see God is winning. He has rescued them from
so much, and continues to bring healing to their lives.
It’s been amazing to see and I can’t believe I
get to be a part of it. Please read my next blog as to how you can help me continue to reach people of the world.
