Who knew monkeys
liked root beer.

So this happened about 4 weeks ago when my team and I went
on an outing to Batu Caves in Malaysia.

Batu Caves is the location of a Hindu temple that houses a
massive gold statue that’s about 150 feet tall. On a specific day of the year,
thousands of people from all over come to see a certain group of Hindu
worshipers who will inflict pain on themselves. During this ritual, people will
place hooks in their skin and drag heavy boulders to be cleansed from their
sins. The heavier the object is, the more weight the sin carries. My team did
not witness this in person, but newspaper clippings were posted on a wall of
the cave detailing this ritual. Coming face to face with the realization that
people perform such acts to feel cleansed was difficult. My heart broke for the
people. So please pray for this place.

So aside from all this, Batu Caves also has a lot of monkeys
running around.( I know this is a random transition…)

Because of the very intense heat, my team and I thought it
was an awesome idea to buy cold drinks on the way down from the cave. Not
really caring too much about the monkeys, we began our trek back down the
stairs. But as soon as the monkeys saw our open drinks, they started closing in
and surrounding us. So my team and I are huddled together, trying to savor the
luxury of a cold drink when one of the monkeys growls at my teammate, Jared and
scratches his pinky as he snatches his root beer. When this happened, the rest of us just threw our cans down at the monkeys. We all scrambled and ran down another set of
stairs as we abandoned our drinks. It was scary/ hilarious. Those vicious animals
were evil and I don’t like monkeys too much anymore. I’m pretty sure we also
offended a lot of people by screaming in a temple. But anyway, it was pretty eventful
and crazy.  I think this is a prime
example of how my team and I are always getting into hilarious situations.
