Almost 5 months ago, my mom and dad were driving me to the airport. This was an emotional time for me and for them because I was about to embark on the greatest journey of my life. My parents were worried about my safety, well-being, and how they were going to survive without me around to eat all their junk food at the house.
As I was about to go through security, my dad stopped us and prayed for us all right in the middle of Regan National Airport. My dad sure knows how to pray and there wasn't a dry eye between the three of us. One last hug from my mom and as we pull away, she tells me "go win some souls for Heaven".
The week before Christmas, Angela and I went door to door with Sister Salve when our last stop was Rica's house. I had briefly met Rica a few days before when she came over to get a shirt altered by Sis Salve and her and I struck up a conversation about being a missionary and the difference between us and mormons. That day she had said she wanted to go to the church we were working with for Sunday worship, but she didn't show up.
At Rica's house that Tuesday morning, we found out some more about her life. For a few years, Rica has had a pull from the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus and make Him Lord over her life. Her best friend from school is a born again Christian and she was telling us how she found herself jealous of her friends attitude to life. Rica has been so angry at life and felt choked by pressures from her mother.
She told us how her mother wouldn't allow her to "change religions". I felt her frustrations alongside her as she was telling us how much she wanted a relationship with Jesus, but also didn't want to make her mother upset.
But the decision was Rica's, not Rica's mother's. I got the pleasure of walking her through the plan of salvation and praying with her to receive the Gift that God wants so desperately for each of us to have.
Praise be to God!
