Today Kayla, Ryan and myself got to visit Angkor Wat (One of or used to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World).

It was crazy walking through such an intricate and ancient place.  It really got my mind racing.. What did Soloman’s Temple to the Real God look like?  Or at times it reminded me that we have the ability to walk into such a high regarded secret place of the Lord.  See Psalm 91..  To be quite honest it was just an awesome day!

We turned corners to be greeted by buddhas and people with incense sticks telling us, “you place one here for good luck!”  Followed by our enthusiastic, “Flood of the Blood” or “Jesus is our Good Luck”.  To be really honest, it’s sad seeing people kneel before buddhas and fully immersed in idols, but today we got to love and show them something different.  Not necessarily with words but with laughter, songs, yelling and just a willingness to be their friends.

Here is the thing I learned today.  The only true wonder of the world is a person.  Anchor Wat was in shambles, pieces of old chiseled stone lay in ruins at our very feet.  It was beautiful and an awesome sight, but what follows was the best part of the day..

Let ruined stones remain just that.. ruins.  The real treasure in this home away from home is looking deeply into the eyes of a person and seeing the emotions and stories that lay engrained in their souls.   My favorite part about the day was hanging out with the people, laughing and spreading joy.  I had a woman shove some kind of nut in my mouth and tell me that it was gonna make me fall in love with her.  We had another lady break out laughing, because we, yes Ryan, Kayla and myself, started giving her a tour of the main temple.  We made up stories about palm trees and specific stones, all while she tried to sell us stuff.

We were challenged to a dual by three small boys, only to leave us chasing them around a small pond in front of the main temple.

The boys then stripped down butt naked and dove into the dirty water.  We stood there laughing wondering what would happen if the three of us dove in as well?  Then one of the boys walked up to us trying to get us to help him get his shirt off..

What follows next was this:

That is a picture of my main little man, dropping some baggage or also known as taking a poop!  Now it makes sense why he needed to strip down. haha We hung around for a little while longer, before the kids ran off laughing and yelling goodbye!

We moved on to a few more temples and on our way out another God encounter happened.  We were all really exhausted from days of little rest and from the heat of the day.  But then four kids crossed our path.  Let me tell you they were straight jokers.  I think they had been trying to sneak into the temple that we had just walked through.  Watch Tomb Raider when you see a place with a lot of trees, that is where we were.  I started dancing down this dirt road and they started laughing and mimicking.  i asked if I could take some pictures and they started modeling and handing us these fuzzy, sour green berry things.

We spent a few minutes goofing off and taking pictures and eating the sour things.  Then said our goodbyes.  That’s when the little man ran up to us and gave us a bag of the berries.  He said, “Here free for you!”  and I laughed took off my sunglasses and said, “here free for you!”  You know how people drop corny lines such as, “I wear shades because my future is bright!”  That is all I could think of, yet another kingdom bringer and he doesn’t know it yet.  We walked the rest of the way out laughing, singing and overwhelmed with more joy then we started the day out with.

With our Tuk Tuk driver waiting, we thought we were home free, finally time to take a nap, enjoy the air condition and relax.  Oh were we wrong!  Kayla and I have been joking around that we are suckers for kids, her a little more then me.  But we got mauled by a group of kids.  They were all around trying to sell us stuff.  We walked in a heard spending a dollar here and there.  Kayla bought 16 bracelets in the matter of seconds.  Usually, that stuff gets you flustered.  We took it in stride, laughing and wishing we could buy it all.

Let me tell you, what a day!  You know how people say that scripture comes to life?  Well it did!
I have a new perspective on Matthew 6:19-21:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where
moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where
thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also.”
What was once a majestic thing really no longer is.  Don’t get me wrong it is definitely something you should see in your lifetime.
