ok, so i’ve typed this blog twice and its gotten deleted both times when i’ve gotten to the bottom. and we have 12 min before wi-fi is up. so here goes nothing: we (4 teams) are serving and living at KIM (kids international ministry) this month. We are working on clearing a HUGE soccer field & working 8 hr shifts at the orphange. Last night I worked with the older kids and wow, what an experience. When it was time for bed the older girls keept asking us (me & 2 other word race girls) for ‘one more kiss. one more hug. one more ‘i love you’. sweet and heartbreaking all in one. This morning we worked in the soccer field and this afternoon we went to the jail for jail ministry. We had an hrs wait (they were doing mass when we arrived) so we decided to go visit the family 2 guys from the squad just built a bathroom for. The family lives in the field next to the jail (mom’s in jail) so we walked past the bull, cows, chickens, goats, and piles of garbage to find this family. They have a 14 year old girl, Kim, who has a form of bone cancer. She once lived with abusive grandparents but now thanks to the ministry and a former world racer’s efforts, she lives with her sister. One of the guys bought his guitar so we decided to sing for Kim. We started off with Christian songs and as we’re singing, I’m standing there thinking, “If Jesus came to a house to visit at 14 yr old girl with bone cancer, he would not stay at the foot of her bed. he would go and hug her and love on her.” so i asked Kim if i could come sit next to her. she said yes. so i took off my shoes and climbed next to her and gave her the biggest hug and told her she was beautiful and began to speak truth into her life. That is is loved. That God loves her. That God has a plan for her life. That she was born for a purpose…. the tears in her eyes told me love broke any language barrier. The rest of the team/squad is still singing while this is going on. I ask Kim if she lives to sing and she nods her head yes. I ask if she can sing a song for me, and what song does she pick? White Horse by Taylor Swift. No. Way. Everyone kinda laughs when I say the song request, and next thing I know we are playing guitar and singing Taylor Swift. In a shack, in the mountains, in the middle of an island, in the Philippines, with a girl who I still can’t figure out how she knows that song. What an awesome God we have. We spent some more time singing pop songs with her, and it was increadible to watch joy come accross her face. After, we went back to the jail and sang to some of the youth there (they had sang for us last time we were there) and we talked with some of the women (who were doing their workout for the day – dancing to Lady Gaga). Crazyness. Time’s up. and there’s so much more to say. until next time……
