The refugee camp of Toma De Mora has many problems, lack of clear water, dust and dirt causing bronchitis and breathing problems for the children and the elderly; homes mad of pieced together tarps and leaky roofs; (not to mention they have been having more rain than usual this season) a flea and bug infestation; limited bathroom facilities.

We realize “we” can not fix everything but want to help as much as humanly possible. So we made a list of the things we thought could be done and set out to do them, remember there are over 300 homes in the refugee camp and probably more than 400 families.

The thing we kept hearing about was the bugs. As if we hadn’t noticed. We would come back from an afternoon of ministry with flea bites all around our angles and calves.

What can “we” do about that? We talked about “seven dust” but decided that would be harmful to the kids and dogs. Then we thought of Flea collars, like the soldiers in Iraq wear around their angles. Then realized how costly that would turn out to be. Then as God would have it….We were told of a local program through the hospital that does fumigation at no cost. Bob Cooley, the local AIM guy and a translator went to the hospital, talked to the Dr and snap it was done.

We printed flyers to inform all the residents of the Camp about the fumigation and what they needed to do, passed out large trash bags to help in covering there water supply and food, as well as cover children’s clothes. In a matter of a day and 1/2 the entire area was fumicated at no cost to anyone. Is God good?
