Having all my gear now I have no excuse not to walk with my pack and get used to the added weight, which rests mostly on my lower back and hips. Thursday and Friday after work, I walked on the treadmill the 1st day I walk 45 minutes at a steady pace. The next day, I walked at an incline for an hour. Saturday morning, eager to get started bright and early I had my shoes on and headed to Beach Fork Dam. The morning was planned, with apple wedges, bottled water, chunks of cheese and Tweezlers in my pack, I hit the trail. Up over the hill, passed the dam toward the swimming area. At the swimming area I stopped at a picnic table for a morning snack and a breather. “This pack is a little heavier than I’d expected”, my thoughts began to turn to doubt, “can I really do this, and will I be physically able to carry everything I need for the next year in this pack”. About that time I notice a swimmer in the lake, with precession movement and great ease she would glide through the water. The area robed off must have been about 200 yards in length by 100 yards in width, yet the swimmer made at least 3 laps while I watched. Suddenly the words “focus and determination” came to mind. If I give up or don’t try, how will I ever know what I’m capable of accomplishing? If I hold to the scriptures I teach the kids “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
“The Lord is my strength in Him will I Hide”
