A simple challenge. Ask Ashley Musick (Squad Leader) no
questions related to the world race from the time we leave Santo Domingo to the
moment we arrive in Phnom Penh. For me though, this is not a simple challenge.
If you know me, then you know that I love to ask questions. It simply is who I
am. I like to know what is happening, when it is happening and how it will
happen. So as I took this challenge, I knew there was a good possibility I
would lose.
So the day was upon us. March 3 we left Santo Domingo.
Several hours in I had my first question. But I decided that it was not
something that I NEEDED to know, so I stayed quiet. The day went by smoothly
and we split into teams once we arrived in LA. The next day held a 20.5 hour
flight. Easy enough. Then comes the 12 hour bus ride. At this point I am
already exhausted and my sore throat has turned into virtually no voice at all!
SCORE! If I don’t have a voice, it will be hard for me to even ask a question.
I could have asked questions if I wanted to but was successful with the
challenge and did not ask a single question. During the whole ordeal I had a
lot of questions come up but I learned a valuable lesson from the self-control
of not asking them.
If the person who has the ability to get answers for your
questions knows that you have a question, then they will give you the answers
when they get them. There is no point in asking them a dozen times because they
know you need to know. Plus, it is not all it is cracked up to be to know all
the answers. So while I am glad I have my voice back and am able to ask
questions again, my question free, voiceless 81 hours and 59 minutes was a
great time to let go and let God have control.
