“What do people do for income here in
Les Ceyas?”

“They used to work at the sugar cane
plant until it was sold to an individual who shut it down.”

“So what do they do now?”

“They turn to prostitution to provide
income.”

I knew I would encounter this
conversation when we arrived in Thailand, but I had no idea I would
have it here in Haiti also.

Vodoo and witchcraft are very prominent
here in Haiti and people still believe that they must give themselves
to sexual temptation to appease the spirits. It is a horrible reality
here in Haiti and the only way for this country to get out of the
darkness it is in, is for this bondage to sin to be broken so the
country can be free in Christ. This is the prayer of the Christians
here in Haiti.

On Friday February 13 a carnival starts
in town. Last year a car was flipped over and people were killed.
People here believe it was God’s judgment on Haiti and this year
they have decided that the first day of the carnival will be
dedicated to God. The president has endorsed it and Christians here
are very excited about this event. Churches in town have been given
specific hours to do special events and we have been asked to
participate. We have also been told that around 15,000 women will get
pregnant during this festival.

We are praying along with Christians
here that the first day of this carnival will be a huge day for Gods
glory to shine out. We are praying that people will come to Christ
and that voodoo will be seen for what it truly is. We are praying
that the bondage to sexual sin will be broken and that women will see
themselves in Christ’s eyes. We are praying for a miracle here in
Haiti. Please join us in intercessory prayer over the next week and
specifically on February 13 as we join other Christians here in
prayer over their nation during the first day of the festival.
