Last year, the day after Thanksgiving, I had the opportunity
to work at the Operation Christmas Child warehouse in Charlotte. It was a fun
experience sorting through and organizing gifts that would be delivered to
children all over the world. Well this past week I had the great honor to
distribute gifts that were processed at the Charlotte warehouse this year to
kids here in Arroyo Cano and surrounding areas. I was so excited when I found
out that we would be doing this ministry and had tears coming down my face when
the boxes arrived on Sunday. Wednesday was the day and we were up bright and
early to sort boxes and start handing them out. It was pure CHAOS. Some of the
boxes had the wrong age groups in them and kids were going everywhere. The
younger ones had no idea what was going on and they were being shuffled around
like cattle while the older ones were shoving others to get in line first. It
was a mad house. But it was fun and exciting to see kids get toys and other fun
stuff that they do not have the ability to get. Then we went to another village
and handed out some boxes and the smile on the kids faces were worth
everything. They were so happy to see us and when they got their package they
were excited to open it and see what they had been given. It truly was an honor
to be a part of the other side of the Operation Christmas Child boxes and I
encourage you to look into doing one or more next year. We were not able to
give every child one because not enough boxes were sent, so your box next year
could make a child’s day.
