“Ish” is the word we must use when asking when something
will occur. For instance, church starts at 7:30 pm ish meaning it usually
starts around 7:50. Or the bus might leave at 10 but then doesn’t show up until
3. I am learning that my time table doesn’t matter here. Things happen when
they happen. If you are spending time with friends or family and you are
supposed to be somewhere you don’t necessarily up and leave to get there on
time. You stay a little longer and leave late and nothing is said about it.
This month has been a lot of hurry up and wait, and if you know me you know
that I like to be places at least 5 minutes early. God is working on breaking
me of this and its sometimes not a fun process. Today we had an objective as a
team to spend 2 hours debriefing the last month. We went to the plaza here in
San Juan and sat down. Almost immediately a guy came up to us and sat behind
us. I started the conversation with the team but they guy behind us started
talking to us. A few people felt like we needed to talk to him so we started
about a 30 minute conversation. I was VERY frustrated. I had an objective in
mind and was not pleased to be deviating from it when we were on a time line.
But alas, it was obviously something God wanted us to do. I reflected on a
journal entry from a few days earlier and God put some perspective in front of
me.
“This whole laid back culture is
driving me nuts but I know it is God breaking me of my desire to always have
stuff planned. After all, it is all Gods time that things happen AND its all
God’s time anyway so why should I be so upset if something doesn’t happen when
I want/think it should happen. When things don’t happen when I want them to I
need to be asking God what it is that He wants me to be doing because chances
are that there is some type of ministry opportunity to be had. Instead of getting
upset about it I need to be thanking God for it because He is giving me more
time to do something for His Kingdom”
This is going to be a process throughout the whole year and
its not going to be fun at all.
But once I figure it out, I think it will release the pressure of having
to have a plan all the time, which is something I look forward to loosing!
