How many of you are overwhelmed at the thought of getting gifts for people for Christmas or you just have no idea what to get?

Well, I usually love getting gifts for people, but this year I was whining about it. I am one of those people who start in June and when I see something that reminds me of a person I will buy it and save it. But when I am under pressure I do not enjoy getting gifts. Since I was on the Race, I could not start the usual time. And the cost of adding more weight to my pack of cool gifts from foreign places at the time was not worth it.

As I complained to a friend about how I need to go Christmas shopping, God quickly changed my heart.  We were at a coffee shop and I was reading 1 Kings 3. God came to King Solomon in a dream and asked him what he wanted. Solomon said that he was like a child who didn’t know how to carry out his duties. He asked God for a discerning heart, to know right from wrong. God was pleased with this request and gave Solomon wisdom.  Solomon’s wisdom from God was a huge blessing to others, and pointed people to God’s love and justice.

Now this may be a weird twist, but God used this story to get me stoked about Christmas shopping. This lead me to remember that I can ask God for wisdom! In James 1:5 is says, “ If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

How sweet is that!! Well, often I think of more serious things to ask for God’s wisdom, but why not ask Him about what gifts to get people! He knows them better than I do and knows what will bless them. Eeek!! It makes me excited even thinking about it.

So instead of being like a little child and grumbling about the “duties” that I need to do, God has given me joy in having a fun task that show people I love them and most of all that God loves them.

God gives wisdom, even in what seems like the unimportant things. He changes our “chores” into joys and privileges to bless others with the gifts He has given us.

So now, when you are overwhelmed and have no idea what to get your buddies, ask the One who made that person. Let’s get excited we can bless a person because God blesses us every day by His grace. Nothing can beat the ultimate gift of Jesus, who was given to us on Christmas, however, our gifts can express glimpses of His utmost love for us.

Happy gift giving!
