Every morning we go to the church and pray for the local community, region, and world. Dorothy, a missionary from Canada came and shared her story and prayer request. It was awesome!
She shared a vision her friend had. Let me share it with you.
There was a huge tree. One man was trying to cut it down with a plastic knife, another person was using a butter knife. They knew that if they cut this tree down God’s kingdom would come in this place. One person even had a saw, but they were getting nowhere fast. The lady who had this vision saw a huge electric chain saw just sitting at the base of the tree. “Why aren’t we using this?! She questioned. A person replied, “It is too loud, noisy, and messy.
The vision ended and she asked God what this meant. She had been asking God where He wanted her and what she should be putting her time into. There was one thing that she didn’t want to do and that was children’s ministry.
So often I think we can have the idea that children are too young, too messy, or too loud to really pour into. We lower our expectations that they can contribute significantly to the kingdom of God. But that can’t be further from the truth! God was showing this lady He can use children just as much as He can use adults and as a matter of fact they have some tools to offer that we don’t.
It is that childlike faith we hear about. If a child has a word of prophesy, they share it and scatter off to what they were doing. They don’t have pride or question whether they should share it or not. We need to be pouring into this younger generation because when we are gone who is going to fight for the kingdom? They are!
It reminds me of Lord of the Rings. If you are not familiar with the story the unassuming, hobbits, those who are the most sheltered and naive people group end up being the ones destroying the ring (an evil symbol that controlled them). The hobbits are the ones who have enough strength, and perseverance, to take the ring and throw it into the fire that will destroy it so they can be set free from its evil effect. No man could do it. The evil temptations of the ring affected them too much.
So this is my encouragement, you don’t have to start up a kids club, but take the time to just pour into 1-3 kids. Truly love on them with God’s love and teach them the Word and the Spirit. God can and will use those kids to work in other kids and not only that, but adults as well. Lovingly prepare them for this brutal world they will have to face sooner or later. If they are equipped, God will blow our minds to show how He can use even a loud, messy child to “bring down a tree and usher in His Kingdom.
“When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.” Mark 10:14
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4
