This month I have the huge pleasure of being on the first ever all 30’s World Race team! It has been super cool to have a month together with these ladies! We’ve been able to pray into each other, love each other, and grow from living life with each other.
Our team name is The Golden Girls (haha), because we are older then the average Racer, but also because we are ‘living our life like it’s golden’, and taking every opportunity to live this life of ours to the fullest with full expectancy to the awesome calling God has placed on each of us!
One thing that we did together this month was write out 30 reasons why YOU (30-35 year old future racer) should do this dog-on thing!
So…read on & race on…it’ll be one of the greatest years of your life! Enjoy!
You should do The World Race in your 30’s because:
-
A new job, and a new apartment, i.e. your “normal” life will be there when you get back (if you so choose to come back), so cast your cares on the Lord and GO!
-
You don’t want to kick yourself later for not doing it…it’s better to go for it now, then to live regretting never go at all!
-
You’ve had real world experience by now, and so you recognize the things that are truly important in life and are more free to pursue them on The Race.
-
You have lots of wisdom, and are able to use all that goodness to pour into the lives of the younger people you have the pleasure of serving with!
-
Go because…God told you too! Duh…what are you waiting for?!
-
Your current life leaves you desiring more…and you are on a journey to find out if there is more…there is.
-
Fundraising may be easier for you because you have a larger circle of influence in your life.
-
You’ve already been away from home long enough that you probably wont suffer from tremendous amounts of homesickness.
-
You are a wanderlust…you want to see the world! Go ahead, get out there and wander with the purpose God has placed in you! He will use your wandering to fulfill His plans!
-
If you are looking ahead to marriage and family, this may be your last opportunity for a trip like this one…so go for it!
-
Wink, wink….you could meet your future spouse while on The World Race! You are with a lot of like minded people and along the way you never know whose path you’ll cross.
-
It can change the tradectory of your life! Changing your day to day routined life can opens you up to new opportunities, new people, and a new boldness!
-
So you can be asked in 11 different countries how old you are, why you aren’t married yet…and then be told how much younger you look! It will happen…be warned…lol!
-
Go because life is too short, and you should live it to the fullest!
-
Because you want to experience God in new ways, in new cultures, through new people. You see more dimensions of God when you see Him at work all around the world.
-
As much as you think you’ve learned before, there so much more to learn.
-
You can re-live your college years by eating ramen, and and all the carbs your little heart desires (Warning: your waistline may be sacrificed on this one, BUT it is possible to eat somewhat healthily on the Race if you make it a priority and save $ so you can supplement your tiny food budget).
-
You can cross things off your bucket list: bungee jumping, canoning, mountain climbing, scuba diving, camels, elephants, tigers, hike, motorbikes, para-hawking, bamboo rafting, caving. If you got the funds, there is tons to do on off days!
-
The children of the world may make you desire children of your own!
-
You can learn to say key phrases in 11 different languages.
-
When there is downtime you are free to pursue interest that you’ve always had, and/or find/develop new ones.
-
Again if you have the funds, you could potentially come home with a whole new international wardrobe- Thai pants, Laos skirt, Indian saree, Japanese kimono, and on and on…
-
The WR teaches you about marriage! You learn communications through feedback with your team, how to work through conflict, calling each other to a higher character, intentional loving. It may suck at times going through it, but you’ll have tools for life & your future mate will be grateful for your new found knowledge.
-
You can break set patterns because you WILL change on the Race. God will weed out things you no longer need, and replace it with planted goodness.
-
If you struggle with perfectionism, the race will help because it is virtually impossible to live life perfectly everyday.
-
God will strengthen your body (for those of you that have aches like me) to accomplish the task you have before you and you’ll come home stronger, and fitter then you’ve been in a long time.
-
You’ll experience small village life, big cities, and for sure, life in ways you have NEVER seen it, and you will never be the same because of it!
- You get to partner with 11 different ministry partners and because of this, you’ll learn so much about working with different people, as well as different types of ministry.
- You’ll see the wonder of God in nature and it will literally take your breathe away at times!
- YOU CAN! The age limit is 21-35, so why even question it? You can go, so you should go. Don’t shut down opportunities that God opens up for you!
The Race is wonderful and well worth your investment of time, resources, and effort! The hardest part is taking the steps forward, so I bless you with the courage to put one foot in front of the other and go for it! You wont regret it!
