INTRODUCTION –
Support-Raising Is: Biblical, Not begging, Building and strengthening relationships, Faith-stretching
Missionaries Explanations of Support-Raising:
1) “Without my supporters, my ministry would cease to exist.”
2) “My supporters are equal partners in this ministry.”
3) “I desire to minister to my supporters the same way they minister to me.”
BIBLE STUDY I – Look through one or more of the following passages: 1 Corinthians 9:1-18 (esp. 7-14), Luke 11:5-13, John 14:13-14, Malachi 3:8-10 to understand more of the Biblical basis of support raising.
SUPPORT-RAISING PROCESS – These are the steps of support raising. Your homework is to begin leaving comments about the best ways you have found to go about each step of this process. As you read a step and don’t quite understand it, comment here and begin discussing it with your teammates.
I. Formally consult your pastor and/or missions chairperson/committee
II. Develop a prayer base (5-10 people)
III. Construct a list of potential supporters
IV. Write your support letter
V. Make personal contact with your supporters
VI. Bring people to a decision
VII. Blog once a week and send a newsletter once a month
VIII. Remember to write thank-you notes
IX. Send out a celebration letter
X. Pray throughout the entire process
