World Race Conference Call
Moderated by Seth Barnes
- How the Race Began:
- Almost 2 years ago Seth was visiting his daughter in South Africa.
- He visited with his friend Anna-Marie who lived there and they talked about the idea of an around-the-world mission trip
- He got back to the US and began working with her to create the trip
- The goal was to leave within 6 months- and they did
- It was 15 Americans and 10 South Africans
-
Three Components of the Trip:
- The Race- mobilizing opportunity for onlookers and creates healthy competition
- Ministry- orphans, church
- Real-World Opportunity- initiation process- abandon the things that identify us and embrace His will for us
- April Training:
- Opportunity to get to know each other and bond
- Explain what the year will look like
- Create teams
- Equip us
- One-on-one time with counselors to discover our baggage and lay it down
- Trip:
- Start in South Africa- training in Swaziland
- Fly in June 7th and meet up with the Jan 07 Racers to connect and hopefully form long-term relationships
- From there- we’re going North, then East (this is all they will let us know for sure right now)
-
Teams of 6 or 7
- 2 guys in each team if possible- depends on girl/guy ratio
-
Questions asked:
- Is our focus still going to be on orphans?
- Originally, there were almost all females signed up for this trip and many expressed an interest in working with orphans, so it was decided to have that as the main focus of the trip. However, there are more guys going on the trip now, so although we’ll still be working with orphans, we’re going to do other ministries as well.
- Are we going to 11 countries in 11 months or less places for longer?
- In the 2006 trip (and you can see in the Jan 07 trip too) that it’s really hard to leave a place because the racers have developed relationships there. So, the thought was to go to less countries and be able to minister for a longer time in each place. This issue still isn’t settled completely.
- What are the “Leading from your Strengths” and Taylor-Johnson tests mentioned on our Team C blog and when/where do we take them?
-
Both tests will be taken
before
the training camp in April - The link for these tests will be sent to you by e-mail
- The Leading with your Strengths test results can be shared with your teammates
- The Taylor-Johnson is a more private, personal test
- Do we need to pack a coat in case we go into a cold climate?
- No. If that happens, we’ll probably buy coats in the field. Most countries you can get them pretty cheap. AIM will make sure we have a way to get coats if we need them.
