We weren’t sure what God had in store, but we knew something was going on. We were doing CR ministry, but we all felt something stirring. CR’s are what we call Cabin Restaurant. Prostitution is illegal in Nepal, but there are ways around that. CR’s look like restaurant when you first walk in. There are usually a few empty tables and booths, but no one is ever actually eating. Most CR’s dont even serve anything, it is just a cover for what is going on in the back. If you walk through the “restaurant”, this is where you find men buying time with girls.
Our ministry in Nepal has been to go to the CR’s and DB’s (dance bars) and minister to the girls. I was really nervous at first, but I have grown to really love it. It has been on my heart to only see these girls as daughters of the King, just like me. They are my sisters that need their heavenly Father. Anyway, a few days ago we were doing CR ministry, when nothing was going quite right. The girls at one CR didn’t really want to talk to us so we just walked around the city for a little bit. We all knew God had something but we weren’t sure where to go or who it was. We went into a hospital and prayed for some people and continued to walk around town until we heard someone yelling at our translator.
We turn around to see a girl coming out of a CR we hadn’t been to yet. To keep her, our translator, and the rest of the girls safe, I won’t use their names. We will just call this girl “P”. “P” came running out to us and it became clear that she knew our translator and exactly what we were doing here. She invited us into the CR, where we sat down and met two more girls, “S” and “SO”. They told us they wanted to know more about Jesus and were thinking of leaving the CR.
We set up a time with them for the next day and I went home so encouraged. The next day we met the three girls for lunch and we talked about our dreams, and how much God loves us. “P” told us she was ready to accept Christ in her heart. She said she had been ready for a long time, but was waiting to see us so that we could help walk her through it. She said she sees that our life is good, and she wants a good life. I talked with her a little bit about what it means to have Christ in your heart and that doesn’t mean that life automatically gets better, but that it means we never have to do it alone.
She understood, and was so ready. I was lucky enough to get to lead her in this prayer. She confessed that she was a sinner, but that she knew what Christ had done for her. She asked him to come live in her heart and to walk beside her everyday. After we finished, we look up and “S” was reading our translators bible. The whole time she hadn’t shown much interest, but here she was, reading God’s word. She wanted Christ in her heart to. So Emily prayed with her, and she asked God to come live in her heart too. It was one of the most beautiful moments I have experienced on the race so far. “SO” is already a Christian, and I could tell it moved her to watch this just as much as it moved us. My heart rejoices in knowing that one day I will see these sisters in heaven.
Next week, we plan on bringing the girls bibles, and talk to them about leaving the CR, and coming to live at the guesthouse where our hosts will help get them jobs and help them grow spiritually. Please keep these sweet girls in your prayers, because I know God isn’t done with them yet. It is amazing to see how much God will move if you just give him a little room to work. He has so much in store for Nepal. Nepal, I love you, and I may never leave.
Love, Tay
