Q & A Blog
1. Favorite meal?
Was chicken and dumplings we had in Botswana! Our hosts were American and made the best chicken and dumplings I’ve ever had. We had it every Sunday with a delicious dessert.
2. Best coffee?
Was in Vietnam, it was a coconut coffee. Also their coffee is much different than our coffee it’s much more concentrated and gives you energy for daaaaaays.
3. The ice cream questions from my dad!?!
I have eaten ice cream in every country, even when it’s literally freezing outside. I miss the magnum bars from Africa, I ate so many of those. (What flavors were they?)
4. Am I still scared of spiders?
Maybe only a little; you should ask the the huge spider that lived in our bathroom and Cambodia that use to watch us shower. I named him Peter Parker cause he was as big as spider man, and probably had just as many radioactive powers.
5. Favorite spontaneous moment?
These were some of my favorite little moments but they were always spontaneous and just happened: Breaking out in random dancing whenever a song we knew came on or during our morning workout. Playing Ali’s guitar and singing random songs to the Meek and Mighty girls that I made up on the spot while standing on some piece of furniture.
6. Did I see anything that I didn’t know existed?
Well I’m not sure this counts, but in Nepal we were up in the Himalayas at the top of a mountain, and we basically lived in a jungle and we cut down the jungle all month to make way for our host to build more of his hostel. I didn’t know I could live in the jungle in the Himalayas and see snow off in the distance at the same time. Also in Botswana I saw a lot of bugs I’ve never seen before, such as the largest stick bug, it could have been a whole branch.
7. What surprised you most?
What surprised me the most is how many people I met and made connections with and built relationships with that had nothing to do with my ministry. In Vietnam we met this lady named Trang. She worked at this restaurant next door and we walked her dogs every day for the whole month and she gave us free burritos, and she had no connection to our ministry. Or random conversations I’ve had with strangers on buses and they give me candy or a bracelet to remember them by. I’ve found connections with at least one person that had nothing to do with my ministry every month so far.
8. Which country did I like best?
I loved Cambodia! That was by far my favorite month and favorite ministry. But South Africa is very, very close to Cambodia, in my book, they were both amazing countries and I want to go back to both of them.
9. What has been the absolute best part of my journey?
The best part might be the people I’ve gotten to do this with. I can’t imagine my life without them in it. My first team Meek and Mighty, we had a rough start but they taught me how to have true community and the best part was doing this crazy journey with them and my other friends from the squad. Also PVT (parent vision trip) might have been one of the best parts of my trip, getting to see my parents and have them spend a day (or four) in my shoes was pretty amazing.
10. The absolute worst part of my journey?
The worst part would have to be all the times I have been sick and couldn’t keep anything inside of me. The worst part was we got to have this conference thing at the beginning of month 5 with 2 other squads called The Awakening. I was so sick I slept the whole 3 days and I had to go to the doctor all 3 days I was there. It was hard because everyone else was being refreshed and I was just really sick.
11. Was there a moment that started to look like a disappointment but God turned it into a blessing?
Yes, month 6 in Swazi. We just got new teams, I was devastated to be split from the sisters I had worked so hard to be friends with and felt like I had to start over. And we were in the literal middle of nowhere! There was literally a gas station/grocery store and a coffee shop 10 minutes down the road by truck, and that was it. There were 3 teams of girls living in this concrete shack, and it was hot! Swazi was our longest month on the race and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere. I felt like that was the end, I wasn’t gonna make it. 2 of my old teammates were there with their new teams which was a little better. We end up meeting this woman named Nomcebo and her neighbor Flora. Flora was this old woman who hadn’t left her house in 3 years, and we decided to bring church to her since she couldn’t leave. That was one of my best days on the Race. She also had a litter of puppies!
Thanks for all your question! Love you all!
