I love God. It
still amazes me that I think I can predict God. He continually shows up in ways that I don’t expect.
As the girls and I were playing “Pato Pato Ganso” (duck duck
goose) in the middle of the street, a norm, something more caught my eye. An
elderly woman peering out a small door on the side of her house. While lying in bed, she slowly motions
me over. I was immediately drawn
to her, a true leading from God.
In my own flesh I would have quickly listed the reasons not to go over
to her and divert my attention elsewhere, sickness, dirty home, etc, but God
took charge.
As I walk over to her thinking about how this conversation
would go, or the lack of the conversation for that matter, thoughts race
through me head of who I now know as Colasas, a 76-year old woman confined to
her bed daily. Honestly, I thought
she had to be on her last leg, she had no life in her. She mumbled and I became frustrated for
the lack of my understanding. Not
much longer, Rocio came to save the day.
I turned around and she began to translate. Not knowing what was wrong, I ask if we can pray for
her. She then begins to tell us
she has had terrible pain in her head for quite sometime now, she does not do
much more than lay in bed daily.
So like the amazing people Dominicans are, sick or healthy,
she slowly musters up the strength and comes to the door to invite us in along
with our following of about 10 kids.
We lay our hands on her and I begin to pray.
Here is where I have to lay my heart out for you or else
you. I prayed and even prayed that
“…even if its not your will to heal her right now, we still love you Lord and
trust in you Lord…” Talking to my
roommates today, I realized I had put God in a box, a box that He was not going
to work in. I prayed and thought
to myself, well I have prayed over so many people and nothing has happened so I
was ready for that to happen again.
THANK GOD that God is the healer and nothing depends on my ways.
After we prayed she instantly looked at us and said she felt
alleviated from the pain in the prayer, and was filled with life. No joke, the difference in her presence
from when we went in her house to when we left was night and day. She thanked us for the prayer with a
bright smile and we all praised God for it. A couple days later we see her again, she is out front her
house full of laughter and smiles enjoying the Dominican sun.
I love how God shows up. Thank you to all my supporters, family and friends. I love you so much and feel blessed to share these moments with you! I send my love!!!
