So, Malawi is one of the poorest countries on earth, therefore internet is like dial-up slow and there is no such thing as “Wi-Fi” even though they put stickers all over their windows advertising that they have it. So email will be the best way for us to communicate this month if you have anything to share!! Really, I’d love to hear how things on the other side of the globe are doing so send something if you can!
We are in Zomba, Malawi and doing evangelism Mon-Fri.
This means that each afternoon we go with our translaters to different areas to meet people, sing songs (I, ME, TARA had to lead my team in singing on the spot yesterday, haha. I think I actually did pretty well!) and share a short bible lesson and then pray for any special prayer requests. On sunday’s we will be leading entire church services- everything except the bible study. Our church is Sadzi Euro African Baptist Church and it is on the mountain-side overlooking the whole city.
Our power has been out since we got here because the transformer in our neighborhood blew and they are still waiting on the repairmen. Our host is hopeful it will be up this week. So we eat dinner by candlelight and go to be before 10pm. They are housing 11 of us in their home and my room is the dining room which has been cleared out and a tent pitched inside to serve as a mosquito net for 3 of us ladies. But really, the home is so beautiful and I enjoy my coffee in the mornings on the front porch and sit on the back stoop at night watching the women cook dinner. Carly on my team is excited to learn how to kill, clean, and prepare a chicken this month- an experience I hope to skip, haha. Also, it’s winter and chilly outside. I guess this is what I missed during all the warm sun in Central America while you had snow at home. But I’ll gladly choose the Malawian winter over Kansas, haha.
Life in this country is hard due to economic issues, but the overall demeanor of life is pleasant. People make life work through the means they have available and laugh with their neighbors each day. My encouragement for you is to take on the Malawian deameanor each day, no matter the challenges. Choose joy and make your neighbor a special treat!
When you sponsor a child it not only provides a hot meal, clean water, discipleship, and basic medical care for the child, it also supports their family by inviting them through the gates of the CarePoint to receive training, discipleship and mentorship.
