It was a tiring day until the children arrived. And the time with them wasn’t nearly enough.?
. . . . .
On Tuesday, our team went to visit a new ministry to see how the World Race might be able to work with them in the future. “God At Work For Kids” is run by Pastor Banda who saw a need to shelter orphans and street kids around Lusaka, Zambia, so he started taking them in with his family back in 2002. It has grown now to have over 50 kids that literally pile into three bedrooms and a cafeteria space at night. It’s so personally challenging to hear him talk about how so many people see the needs of others around them but wait until they have funding or the perfect scenario to make the work a reality; however, he saw the need and said I’ll use what I have right here, right now to get started and be filled with the hope that provision will come through. And it has!?
Recently, they were able to purchase a large plot of land that they dream to build a large housing facility on, as well as using portions of the land to grow crops and have a culinary school. Another goal is to have a bakery to help sustain the orphanage and teach job skills to the kids. The vision is strong and support will be key.?
After a day of discussions and viewing property, the kids were finally arriving home from school!! We got to watch and listen to the worship team practice as we talked with the kids of the orphanage. It was nothing short of amazing. I sat on the floor next to the girls and asked them what they wanted to be and tried to show them parts of my life at home too. I was sitting with a future policewoman, nurse, teacher and more. They said my little brother was handsome and liked my pup, Kate. I even made a couple babies cry just because they had never seen a light skinned person before. We were the first visitors to ever come to see the ministry and it was a big moment for everyone.?
The place is dirty and there aren’t enough beds, but they have a place to call home.?
. . . . .
Please visit their website (still being developed) to learn more! I hope a partnership with the World Race is a blessing in the works for them and I hope sharing the story will inspire someone abroad to become a key supporter to help this ministry lift off the grounds stages.?
