This month, I’m getting to live and do ministry with my entire squad in Los Guido, the second most dangerous slum in Costa Rica. It’s a place where only 3% of the children end up graduating from high school. Where prostitution is legal at 18, but most girls start years before that. Where we hear gunshots nearly every night. Where 80% of the homes have abuse.
But it’s a place where God shows up and brings hope each and every day. His light is shining bright, directly in the middle of Los Guido where “The Finca” sits. The Finca, which is run by Christian Light Foundation, is a plot of land that has a church and feeding center for children. You can feel this light as soon as you walk through the gate, and God is creating miracles hundreds of times per day here. It took me until our host actually mentioned it to realize that a miracle doesn’t have to be some grand act of healing. It’s things like having a little boy run up with a giant grin and give you a big hug because he doesn’t get that at home. It’s making friends with a mom, regardless of the language barrier. It’s playing football with a teenager you know is probably involved in a gang, but he opens up and gets to act like a child again for two hours. This new mindset has really helped me to actually feel in my heart that God is EVERYWHERE, and He is constantly battling for us. God is so good. Yesterday, today and forever.
“I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12.
