I’m sorry I haven’t blogged yet! I don’t get to the internet too
often & it doesn’t always work when I do. & I’m still trying to sort
out my thoughts, but I wanted to let you know how I’m doing & about the
work we are doing here in the Philippines this month… hopefully next time I’ll
be able to go a little bit deeper.
This month my team, Shabach, & three other teams:
Segullah, United & Agape Lifesong, are working with Kid’s International
Ministries (KIM). We’re taking shifts in the orphanage that houses 24 beautiful
children, 5 months to 13 years & clearing out and planting grass on their
huge soccer field. Beyond that, there are so many opportunities to get involved
in what God is doing in the community: from visiting juveniles at the local
prison, to feeding children in the park (from Kid’s Against Hunger boxes!),
sharing testimonies on Sunday mornings at church or on Sunday nights at the
gang ministry and all kinds of other things. I’ve put most of my time and
energy into the kids at the orphanage & I think I’ve fallen in love with
each and every one of them. I’m learning a lot about the way God loves us
through being able to love on these children. They are beautiful and precious
and intelligent and wonderful, and almost all of them reply with a “NOT,” when
I have the opportunity to tell them. I am thankful for being able to speak that
truth into their lives, though; maybe soon they will begin to believe it.
I’m learning how to live in community, though I believe it
to be a life long process. I’ve been surprised by the details in the stories
I’ve heard already & I’m sure I will continue to be. I don’t think I ever
realized how vastly different everyone is… which is odd because it seems like I
should have understood that already. But I am just so thankful for all these
people I get to travel the world for Jesus with, it’s kind of ridiculous.
I miss you all at home. I’m only homesick when I think about
you, which can only mean you are my home… Love you all!
