I could not believe my eyes as I witnessed a mob of angry men trample down the
street chasing after this red car in vengeance. Once they trapped and
surrounded the red car they proceeded to punch in the windows and push and rock
the car back and forth until the car was forcefully turned completely on it’s
side. Violent shouts mingled with metal crunching, glass smashing and
horns blaring resonated in my ears. The two men that were inside the car
were jerked out through the smashed door and the mob of men brutally began to
beat the men and carry them off down the street. The men who remained
decided to continue to flip the car over and over again in a fit of rage.
The smell of gasoline was so pungent as it spilled out of the demolished
car.

Josh and
I then decided to walk home in utter disbelief of what we had just witnessed.
But, then we heard shouts coming from the town hall and once again men
were running in the direction of yells so we decided to see what the madness
was all about. When we came upon the square we definitely witnessed
“madness” as the two men were held captive and were being beaten for
all to see. You should have seen the faces of those who were kicking,
punching, stabbing and pounding the men. They had this fire of anger in
their eyes, but this smirk of happiness and accomplishment on their faces.
It was definitely a riot with a complete debate in suit where two groups
were arguing about what to do with the men. It was complete chaos as men
shouted, “lynch them, cut off their heads, burn them alive, etc..”
I was
standing on top of a bench with my hands outstretched praying for God to show
up in his supernatural power. I prayed for grace, for love to fall down
from heaven and specifically for a storm to ensue and therefore break up the
masses. Just moments after I prayed the crowd split and the two men were
escorted past us. Both men had their shirts ripped off of them, were
badly bruised, blood dripped down their backs and their faces looked mutilated.
The men were directed into a holding cell and at the same moment it
started pouring as everyone scattered off in different directions.
(Nothing like cold rain to cool off the anger that flooded the
street.)
As Josh
and I ran home in the rain many questions flooded my mind. “What
will happen to those two men?” “Will they be beheaded, or
burned alive?” “Will the police take a bribe as they have done in the
past and release the men into the hands of the angry men once again?” I kept
praying that somehow GRACE would WIN. If you would like to read a better
version of the story check out Josh’s blog..
Other
info if you want to know more:
*You are
probably wondering why these men were being attacked in the first place.
These two men were wanted for kidnapping children. The men’s faces are on posted on wanted posters all over town. There were three
men in total, but the other man was supposedly already burned alive. People here
take justice into their own hands and the police just watch it happen.
*About an
hour after Josh and I got home we heard sirens going off for a considerable
amount of time. The car had been set on fire and black smoke and the
smell of burned rubber filled the streets.
*On our way back from dinner we saw that the car had been moved from its
original location (about 800 meters) and was now turned upside down and sitting
in front of the town hall. I guess the car there is a symbol that
“Justice was served and a warning to others.”
