Super Bowl of Caring, a fun play on words is an annual event that youth across the nation lead and participate in on Super Bowl Sunday. At Zion Evangelical, my hometown church, the High School members promote the special offering through the church newsletter and bulletins prior to that Sunday. A clang of the soup ladle on the side of the pot catches people’s attention as they then announced their intent and proceeded to collect donations.

This year is the seventh year that the Zion youth group has been apart of this movement and raise money for a cause of their choice. Most of the years they have decided to purchased livestock for starving families in foreign countries providing them with a perpetual food source. Some years they helped local people with their needs. This year to my surprise they decided to donate 1/3rd of the funds towards The World Race! Oh how I wish they could have seen my reaction when I found out! I was absolutely surprised and honored that they would think of me! Only a week prior had I told the congregation of what God had called me to be a part of…and at that time I hadn’t mentioned anything about financial needs. I am SO amazed, thankful, and just plain old blown away at the support that Zion and the youth group have demonstrated! I never thought, expected, or imagined such things to occur and happen before I’ve even really asked!

This church, this body of Christ, is my living example of 1 John 3:18. I have truly felt their love and am so thankful to have had my life’s foundation formed, challenged, cared for, and encouraged by such a community of believers. Souper Bowl of Caring, is only one example of how the youth are encouraged to be involved and care for others in the community and world.

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
