Dear Friends and
Family,
Hello!
I hope you are doing well and getting ready for the spring! I want to take a
minute to share with you what has been going on with me lately. I recently
graduated from The University of Mississippi with a degree in Social Work.
During my time at Ole Miss I grew into a deep relationship with the Lord and am
now responding to the call on my life to serve Christ in the mission field,
especially in areas of great social injustices. I learned about Adventures in
Missions (AIM) and a trip they do called The World Race. I applied and then
literally jumped up and down when I was accepted!
This
September I will be leaving for a year of traveling to 11 different countries
living among the impoverished, oppressed, and gospel-hungry people in Southeast
and Central Asia, Northwest Africa, and Eastern Europe. This is an opportunity
to put faces and hearts with the groups I have studied in my Social Work
classes and for whom I have claimed to have compassion. It is a chance to act
on the Great Commission, take the news of Christ to the nations, and to be
stretched, challenged, and grown in my own faith.
I
am still amazed that I am going to be used in such a way to advance the kingdom
of the Lord! One way in which my faith is already growing is by the fact that I
am relying fully on God to provide for my needs for this year of my life. This
is why I am writing to you. In order to go on this journey, I need much
support. Specifically, I need to
raise $15,800 to cover my living expenses for a whole year. I am coming before
you now, as strange as it is to do this, to ask that you pray and act by
partnering with me in doing ministry around the world by contributing financial
support whether by monthly donations or a one time gift. I also need you to
commit to praying for my team and I while on this year long missionary trip.
I have enclosed
a response card and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this
ministry. Please make checks payable to Adventures In Missions and return the
response card with your donation to Adventures In Missions PO
Box 534470 Atlanta, GA 30353-4470. The response card will provide AIM with the
information necessary to send you a receipt for your donation. Please send all donations by May 1st 2010. Adventures In
Missions is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit
organization. Donors will receive
receipts for their gifts with the understanding that the disbursement of those
gifts lies completely at the discretion of Adventures In Missions and that the
gifts are non-refundable and non-transferable, per IRS regulations. Gifts may be tax deductible; please
consult a tax advisor.
Thank
you so much for praying on how you can join in this ministry. This is going to
be a year of intense spiritual growth for me, the people I meet, and my
supporters as you are able to follow along on this experience through a blog
AIM has set up for all the racers. I would love to talk with you in person or
on the phone in the next week or so. I hope you have a wonderful day and I will
talk to you soon!
In Christ,
Tamara Powers
