Na+Cl2
The compound for salt. As I was reading this morning (September 27) in Matthew about being the salt and light I was reminded that to make salt it took two parts, the same way in our lives it takes two parts to actually be the salt of the world.
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” -NIV
When we accept Jesus as our Lord we automatically become the salt because that is what we are called to be and what He tells us we are, that’s the first piece of being the salt to the world, just stepping out in faith and claiming God as your savior. However in Matthew he talks about losing the saltiness and causing it to become worthless, so what good is someone who believes in Jesus but isn’t being the salt? The second component to being the salt is living out your faith, and taking action as a Christian, by being intentional about spending time with the Lord in order to become more Christ like, leading others in a Godly manner, and being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Just like
Na+Cl2= NaCl (salt)
Belief+action= disciples making disciples
For everyone this might look different than what it currently looks like in my life. Not everyone is called to go across the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus, some are called simply across the street to their neighbors, but the fact is as a follower of Christ everyone is called to be the salt and as I studied this passage this morning I gained a new perspective of what being the salt actually was and how to keep myself from becoming useless salt. The Bible is so cool because you can read the same thing over and over and each time the Lord can use it to show you something different that you never saw before.
So go out and be the salt so that people may “taste and see that the Lord is good” – Psalm 34:8.
