“Wow, Fundraising is way more fun when you are not the person actually doing it,” My roommate states after I just got done explaining all the efforts I am putting forth to raise the funds I need.
She is right, Fundraising is difficult and it’s time consuming. When you are in the act of fundraising it is daunting, it is meticulous and you have to get creative. For a person who lacks the creative gene sometimes this is where is really gets to me. I run out of ideas and end up feeling frustrated and defeated.
The act of fundraising is a trying time but the fruits of your labor are a wonderful picture of how if we just trust God and His plan the great becomes small in comparison. 16,000 dollars diminishes into that amount of money that was nothing in comparison to the grand plans and adventures the Lord has prepared.
I have fundraised on several occasions before and time and time again the faithfulness of The Lord shines through. This is always a time where I see my faith and total awe of God grow. It amazes me to see the way he makes grand gestures out of ordinary situations. He makes a trip to the Chick-Fil-a into a donation. He transforms and renews the frustration and defeat of fundraising and turns it into a showing of His presence and help when following the will He has for your life.
In previous trips the task has pretty much been a task done on my own. I always had my parents to fall back on but I typically took it on by myself. This time is different though. God has showed me so much even in the week or so since I started. He has allowed me to see this is not a task that I have to do alone. I have been in awe of the way my friends and especially my roommates have taken ownership of raising funds. They have blessed me so far more than I could have ever even imagined: Between their ideas, money given, prayer, support, and even the occasional pep talk God has showed me that I am not in it alone. He has given me a community of support to help me when I fall and He is always their in the times where the task just seems too big. So buckle up, get your stamps ready and…
Bring on the pep talks.
Bring on the cookies.
Hand me another envelope because I’m ready to be sent.
