Ministry for the day was undecided, each team had the chance to make ministry what they thought it should be. My team, Semper Fortis, gathered in the morning to discuss options of what ministry should look like that day. We prayed, talked and ended up deciding that we would set up a stand on the side of the road to paint nails. We made invitations and set out in the early afternoon to invite some ladies in the community. After another team mate and I returned from dispersing the invites, there were already several girls gathered around getting their nails done by team mates who had stayed back. I never ended up paining any nails but my own, but I did have the most amazing afternoon. After doing my nails, I sat down next to a little girl who was chatting with another team mate, Lillabea. She was wanting to practice her English because she was moving to New York in 6 months. She spoke very broken English, but with a little charades and many guesses Lillabea and I conversed with her. Her name was Carla and she was very intelligent. We talked about everything from favorite colors to where I lived in the states. Our time together was coming to an end but Carla wanted to take Lillabea and I to get some fruit. She led us up a hill and showed us an avocado tree and then further up a tree with small, sour fruits on it. She treated us to the fruit and then led us further up to a guyaba tree. She knew the spots like the back of her hand and had seemingly been to each tree many times before. On our way back down the hill, Lillabea mentioned that she liked a flower and to no ones surprise, Carla picked and gave us each one. She was so sweet and kind, holding our hands until we got back down to the road. As we got closer to the street, she explained to us that her house was in the opposite direction of where we had to return. She hugged us good bye and we parted ways but her hospitality and heart will never be forgotten.
