Hi!
My name is Susan and I live in Houston, TX. The simple truth is the "So, tell me a little bit about yourself…" opener always leaves me scratching my head. I don't like to talk (or type) about myself, but here goes…
I am…
1. A daughter… My parents are amazing and supportive. I accepted a long time ago that my upbringing varied from the norm, so I revel in the differences I find even if they confuse me. My Mom is one of my best friends and we talk…well, now that I think about it, a scary amount, but I wouldn't change it for anything!! My Dad is my hero, but saying that embarrasses him, so I usually don't.
2. A sister… I have one older brother (through my parents). He is married to an extremely nice woman and has an 11-year-old son (who I spoil every chance I get). I have another "older brother" who is actually my best friend, but even my aunts and uncles introduce him as my brother (or their nephew), so he counts. He, too, is married to an amazing young woman and they have 2 sons that are 12 and 3 (the 3-year-old's my godson!).
3. A teacher… I currently teach 6th grade math at Alief Middle School. It is my eighth year teaching and I LOVE IT!!! My department and co-workers are some of the most amazing and supportive people I have met in my life. I thank God for them and, if I'm honest, often struggle with the thought of not seeing them daily anymore.
4. An eager volunteer… I love serving people!! I even loved waiting tables in college. I look for opportunities to volunteer in my free time (which my friends will tell you is sparse) and fill those hours trying to help others.
5. Usually the free entertainment… I am quick with a joke, especially at myself (though even I have to conceed that sarcasm is especially hard in print). I enjoy making people smile and laugh, so am a complete dork in my efforts to accomplish this self-appointed task.
