Before I came on the World Race, I watched countless videos by World Racers and by Adventures In Missions. These videos created a passion and a desire in my heart to do the same thing once I became a World Racer.
I am now a World Racer, and a World Racer on her seventh month (where has the time gone?). I have had many ideas for videos. I have not made my own World Race video yet, for various reasons. Even though I have not made my own World Race video, I still have had opportunities to use videos in ministry.
AIM has started a new video project called World Race Films over the past few months. Most of the videos are solely made from individuals in the Adventures In Missions marketing department. There have been two videos so far that they have invited the squad story leaders to create content for. I have minimal experience in videography, but I recorded footage anyway and submitted it. What was the worst that could happen–that my clips wouldn’t make it into the video?
The worst thing did not happen. In fact, the complete opposite occurred. My clips were featured in two separate videos produced by Adventures In Missions!!!! Exclamation points do not even come close to explaining how excited I was when I found out that what I had done made the final cut.
We were issued our first challenge in month four (Zambia for my squad). The challenge was simple: If you had five seconds to tell the world anything, what would you say? I told my team about the challenge, and they were excited about the opportunity. I did not have a tripod of my own, so we took what we had to make a tripod.
One of my former teammates, Hannah Jones, made it into the video!
Our second challenge as squad storyleaders was to record whatever we did on December 17. Why December 17? It was a normal day. AIM wanted to capture real life on the Race. The World Race is more than the pretty photos that we capture on Instagram–hiking waterfalls, ziplining across national borders, riding elephants. The Race really is about just living life as you normally would, and seeking Jesus and His Kingdom in all of that.
I want to give a huge shout out to all of Radiant Vibes and all of Brunette Blend for always being patient and gracious as I film you, no matter how many takes I have to film or how many times you turn around to find out that I’m recording you. Thank you for loving me by allowing me to grow in this passion of mine.
I also want to give a huge shout out to the staff of AIM for inviting me to become a storyleader. You have believed in me, saw the potential in me, and trusted my creativity. I am so thankful for how I am challenged, mentored, inspired by, stretched by, and taught by each one of you. This opportunity is a dream come true, and I am grateful for it every day. I am so excited to grow in this new-found passion of mine!
