We walked around with three free tickets to give out to the people in Quiche for a free lunch with us later that afternoon. Listening to where the holy spirit directed us, we passed out tickets and had conversations with the people in Spanish. We were trusting that God would direct us to the people who not only needed food for their body but to hear about Christ, food for their life.
After making 100 sandwiches, we went back downtown to give lunch to the people in Quiche. No longer were we going to look like solamente tourists, but we were able to serve these people and know we love them because Christ has loved us. 12:30 came along and we were supposed to have a translator to be able to share some of our testimonies and share the gospel of Christ. However, 1:00 came along and still no translator!
Many people would become panicked or anxious or worried. However, the teams I worked with chose joy in the situation. Some of the people on our teams started to lead worship in English and a little bit of Spanish. Two people stepped up to the plate and trusted God would provide the words for them in Spanish so they could share with them the gospel.
After, we began to pass out lunch. Now, we gave lunches to those who had a ticket on them; however, many showed up without tickets. No one was listening about forming a single line, but instead they were all trying to dash towards the front almost turning into a mob.
Rather than panicking, even though I slightly did, many turned to prayer. Prayer that no one would get hurt and these people would be fed regardless of it was the food from us or not.
Finally, the translator showed up and people were able to share their testimonies. Many people wanted prayer, and it made it a great day of serving despite chaos.
Tuesday, we found out that we’d be working at a school/church. We thought God was funny because three of us on our team were teachers and going on the World Race because we didn’t think that is what God has in store for us in the future. God did have a sense of humor because we were not teaching at all!
The pastor introduced us to all of the students in the school who were adorable. We got to play with them at recess. Then he put us to work. We carried over 400 bricks in an assembly line from one spot to another to create a wider walkway for the students to walk to school on. Then we pitch axed and shoveled dirt to make the paths wider. Finally, after a storm the one day, we were able to finish it yesterday!
Never would I have thought that I would enjoy carrying over 400 bricks, being soaked because of the rain, and shoveling dirt. However, with my team and another team we found joy in serving him through singing songs, laughing at random things, and encouraging one another until the job was complete.
Next week, we are doing more manual labor where we will be building a campground called “The Face of God” translated into English. We are in the middle of nowhere in the mountains building a fence for the future of this church. Please pray that I can choose joy with my teammates as we are tired and working in the mud all week with cows and pigs surrounding us!
Our team does feedback every day where we need to give positive feedback and constructive feedback. A teammate told me she wants to see me grow in not having to have all things planned out and to simply trust that God is there. I do struggle with that; however, God is helping me grow in learning to trust Him and have joy in serving him wherever we may be. It doesn’t matter what we do or don’t do, we have a God that loves us all the time. He gave his only son to die for us so that we may be seen as beautiful sons and daughters of Him. That is my joy.

Team Real Love and the walkway we built with otro equipo, another team.
