I love my job!  But, tour life wears on the body… it’s an exhaustion that is known to few, I consider it race training*.

Yesterday, we had a day off in Gatlinburg I mean, Niagara Falls.  My body ached for sleep more than it ached for  food.  I was woken up from a nap with an offer to walk to Niagara Falls… and I hesitated to say yes.  I almost missed seeing Niagara Falls over weariness!!!

Don’t worry… thankfully friends didn’t allow me to make such a foolish decision and convinced me that once I was awake and walking I would feel better.

But, of course, it got me thinking…  how many times do I miss the Greatness of God because of apathy?

In The Explicit Gospel, Matt Chandler has this to say about the goodness of God::

“He created the flavors! He created the colors. He created it all, and he did it all out of the overflow of his perfections. It’s not like he was thinking, ‘Oh, I’ve got some fajita flavoring over here. I know: let’s put it on the cow and the chicken.’ He created the avocado to have a certain flavor; he created the skirt steak, the fillet, and the tenderloin to have certain flavors. That was God’s doing. So every aspect of creation, from the largest galaxy to the tiniest burst of flavor in food or drink or seasoning, radiates the goodness of God.” (p102)

After reading this a few months ago, I remember getting coffee with my mom and being so excited, like a child, that God had created coffee!  If I am so wowed by God’s ability to have created the yumminess of coffee, shouldn’t I be as excited tenfold for his ability to create landscapes and natural wonders?

I can just imagine God looking down from The Heavens shaking his fists saying, “Stephanie! It took me a whole millionth of a second to create those magnificent waterfalls! Get your bum out of bed and check them out!!!”

But let’s be honest, this really isn’t about coffee or waterfalls at all is it?

This is about apathy and the ability within me to miss things every day.  I don’t want to miss out on God’s goodness.  I don’t want to miss out on relationships because of fear, learning opportunities because of business, adventure because of security, humility because of pride, servant hood because of comfort.

My prayer this morning is that you would join me in looking for God’s goodness…both in the big and small things.  Whether it is a sunset or the laughter of a child, that we would be overwhelmed by His ability to create.  That in seeing His creation it would draw us into a place of awe and worship.

Where have you seen His Greatness today?
