2 weeks in and I’ve been outta commission already. On Sunday
I started feeling no bueno, very flu like, achy and I had no energy. I had my
first Dominican clinic experience on Monday. Kim, one of my squad leaders and
Melissa, my teammate, who speaks Spanish, went with me. They were both beyond
great.
There is no bus system here that we know of at least, so
walking there and back stunk real bad, but God gave me the energy somehow. The
nurses were so sweet and the doctor kept asking us why there were so many
Americans so we got to witness to him and tell him what we are doing here, that
was awesome. Our God is good.
It’s hard when your sick living with 45 people, but really
every single person has been great. Especially my team, they have been SO
caring and waiting on me. Christ just shines in this house. Just being here
still in Him there is a peace.
So it’s been 6 days of feeling very blah, but my temperature
is finally gone. amen! Right now my team is out doing our ministry. I’ve missed
our first 3 full days of ministry work… bummer. That has been the hardest and
frustrating, to just sit here. God is teaching me patience fo sure. Team
Transformers is working with Team Green Light in the slums neighborhood of Barroccones
and I was fortunate enough to get to go there for an hour or so the other day.
God is so great though. He just wanted time with me. I got
to spend some quality time just listening and praying for those in the slum the
past couple of days. They have heard of Jesus, they know what prayer is, but
poverty and hopeless just infiltrates the neighborhood. Just being there for
one afternoon and realizing how many kids just kept coming out of nowhere,
hundreds and hundreds of them and seeing a church building literally being
smaller than the size of my bedroom back home; I began to suddenly realize one
month no longer felt nearly long enough to begin to be able to pour into the
people of Barroccones.
I was reading 1 Corinthians and my study Bible was saying it
took Paul a year and a half to minister to the people of Corinth. And even then
they came back needing his help again and again to get back on the path of
following Jesus’ way. Then I read 3:6-7…
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it
grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who
makes things grow.
Thank you Father for the reminder. We can see the foundation
of Jesus already in the people of DR. They are beautiful, their voices, their
faces. I pray God uses us to shine His light so that when it is time for us to
leave, He gets to finish His work, brining them to shine the truth to all they
touch and cross paths with. Father this is why I serve you, even if I only
touch one life here or thousands. Your will and love is worth it all. It is all
for Your glory! Use me to plant, sow, water, serve, whatever is needed here in
the Dominican.
“Shine Your light and let the whole world see, we’re singing
for the glory of the risen King!!
