“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”                                        -Joshua 1:9

God has been bringing this scripture in to my life several times in the last week. This week has been pretty tough. I don’t even really know why except that I keep staring at that bar that shows my progress bar and thinking that it’s so empty. How am I going to raise all this money?

As I’ve been freaking out about this I feel like God has been bringing this passage to my attention for a couple of reasons. I think the first reason is to keep bringing to mind that He is in control. None of this is going to happen without His approval and everything that’s going to happen is going to come from Him. I have a tendency to focus on the problems and make an idol out of money. God’s sovereignty has to be the focus, otherwise none of it is going to be worth anything at all.

I think the second part is to be of comfort. “Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” God has given me this massive dream and there’s massive obstacles to overcome with it. But He will be with me wherever I go and He will make a way for me to go.

As a rabbit trail, one of the times this scripture was brought to my attention was at a baby shower for one of the women in my Bible study. It really struck me, as she was reading this, that she is also beginning a mission. This mission is one that will last for the rest of her life. The mission trip I’m going on is only a year long, but parents are on this mission of servitude and sacrifice for their whole lives and most people won’t recognize that, even, as a mission. They are amazing people.
