About Me: Through The Eyes of A Child

Since I will be traveling to 11 countries in 11 months, I thought I would keep with the trend and introduce myself using 11 anecdotes about my life.

1. I took my first business course when I was six years old. Over a cup of hot chocolate, my dad handed me a crisp $2.00 bill and proceeded to draw the Time Value of Money on a napkin. Seventeen years later, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary ‘s Haskayne School of Business.

2. In grade 2, I brought my Fisher Price tape recorder to school for Show & Tell and sang “Jesus Loves Me” in front of my class. I still love that song.

3. I have a younger sister, Dani, who loves to study history more than anyone I know. She is currently living in Europe and finishing her master’s degree in Human Rights and Genocide Studies. She is my favorite person to travel with and inspires me to collect memories, not things.

4. In high school, I was the lead singer and bass guitarist of a chick pop-punk band called Legit. We wrote original songs while learning to play our instruments and totally rocked our first show in front of 300 people. I may or may not still have video footage…

5. My mom is the most beautiful, courageous and inspiring woman I know. I am grateful to be her daughter and honored to call her friend.

6. I have been skydiving in New Zealand and bungee jumping in Greece.

7. My first job out of high school was a Starbucks barista, which likely explains my coffee addiction.

8. Last summer I spent eight weeks collecting china teacups, teapots and cake plates from garage sales for a surprise English high tea party before my sister left for school in London, England. I enjoy getting lost in the creativity of planning theme parties for people I love.

9. Though I love meeting new people and fostering close friendships, I cherish time alone, with God, and can easily spend hours at a time enjoying the simplicity of my own company. I have learned to embrace my introverted personality in an extroverted world.

10. I am 28 and still discovering what I want to do with my life. But since the day my dad asked me to walk across the room like peasant girl, then turn around, and for the second time walk across the room like a princess, I have known the kind of woman I want to be.

11. I believe the greatest investment we can make is in the life of a child. Dhanae (11), Ellie (9) and Ria (5) are the beautiful daughters of close family friends who have filled my life with joy since the day they were born. I love spending time with them and coming up with creative ways to draw out the treasures of their unique personalities. They wanted to help you get to know me better and hope you enjoy the video below: “About Steph: Through the Eyes of a Child”.
