A day after Easter, a small group of committed individuals (including me) is going to embark on a 450 mile round trip bike ride from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, returning to Phoenix after a 20 mile hike through the canyon. It doesn’t sound incredibly challenging until the key ingredient is thrown into the equation: trying to do it in 8 days.

Some may call it crazy; but I call it PASSION.

It’s actually quite fitting that we are embarking a few days after Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection. The Ultimate Passion. Jesus is passionate about you. He is passionate about me. Jesus was willing to live and die for you and for me. This is passion – the driving force that not only causes you to jump out of bed in the morning eager to embrace the day, but the perseverance to also endure trails and hardships in the face of persecution. Passion not only gives life to your step, but a beautiful and humble surrender of that step into the hands of God. The Lord’s passion for you and me gave life to an infant Jesus, but this same passion took the very life of His only Son, Christ Jesus.

What are you passionate about?

The Cross is not only a life-giving act of passion, but a deep and sacred act of intercession. Jesus is prayer. He ‘stood in the gap’ between his heavenly Father and you and me, the sinner. Jesus interceded for a fallen race- the last Adam, and through his death and resurrection, we have been adopted as sons and daughters of the King Most High!

For whom or what are you “Standing in the Gap”?

I am passionate for my generation. I want to see them wake up to their identity; thus discover their unique purpose in this journey. My heart aches for ‘the disposable people’ who are toiling day and night in a brick kiln or a brothel. Interceeding or “standing in the gap” for these individuals is a gift, a means for binding my heart and spirit to theirs.

It is in this Spirit of PASSION and INTERCESSION that I am crazy enough to attempt this bike ride. It’s really not about the bike ride at all, but about embarking on a journey that is beyond myself. It’s about my generation. It’s about the women enslaved to sex.

Will you join me in this fight? The bike ride is March 24-31. Starting on Easter, each night of the ride we will be hosting a speaker/prayer conference call. Even through you may not be able to join me on the winding road, I want you to be an integral part of experience. In a few weeks, I will be posting the nightly prayer schedule on my blog. It is my hope to bring in speakers from organizations that are currently combating human trafficking and to provide the opportunity for students on college campuses and past world racers to share testimonies…followed by a time of corporate prayer. Please mark these dates on your calendar. Details will be coming soon.

Please note: I am joining in on a dream of one of my fellow World Racers, Eric Hanson. This bike ride has been long brewing in his mind and heart. Check out his blog: Biking for Jesus, the Ultimate Hippie. But the timing was never right…until now. Jesus is calling a generation to Himself and is sending them out with KEYS TO THE KINGDOM!
