Well, we finally made it to Haiti safe and sound. [Last
week actually, lol – internet here is not really available to us].It was quite
the journey from Santo Domingo to the border of Haiti. Once we got to the
border, we got stopped for almost 2 hrs. They almost didn’t let us cross over,
but eventually we were finally able to enter the country.
I am currently with Team Spectacle in Jacmel, Haiti. This
past week we have been putting on church services in the middle of town. We
have performed several dramas and shared a lot of stories and testimonies from
our lives. We have walked around town and met a lot of people and started
building relationships with the people of Jacmel.
Next week we will be in charge of VBS (vacation bible
school). We will be putting together games and bible stories and arts and
crafts for the kids to partake in every day.
As far as internet access where I am currently staying,
it is pretty close to nonexistent. We are not close to town and it costs us
money to drive to town so I may not respond to emails for several weeks or have
many blogs this month.
We were supposed to stay at the YWAM base here in Haiti,
but there were some slight issues, so we are staying in the top portion of this
home which is close by the base. It is beautiful and the view we have of the
mountains and palm trees and nature is phenomenal.
I was talking to Candace, one of our contacts here in
Haiti and we had this great conversation about stereotypes of this country. I’m
pretty sure that most parents out there are most concerned for us to come to
Haiti because they assume that Haiti is so incredibly “dangerous” and how could
we be sent to a place such as this? Well, let me tell you that I have been fed
a lot of things about Haiti and still I really didn’t know what to expect
before getting here.
However, when I got here, especially to Jacmel and the
house that we are staying in, it is so much more beautiful than I ever would
have imagined. This country is absolutely beautiful. I feel like I am back in
Hawaii. The land is covered in every kind of fruit tree imaginable and millions
of palm trees. The people that we have encountered and talked to are very
pleasant and are seeking and searching for God. I mean yes, every country,
every city and town has its darkness, but we are doing just fine here and there
is no need to worry about us this month.
Please continue to pray for us in our ministry and for
our health. I have personally had pretty bad allergies b/c there is so much
dirt and dust here. I currently have a sore throat – nothing major. However, I
cant bear to wear my contacts anymore because the dust and dirt is so bad. I
have lots of bites on my legs and arms from mosquitos and ants..possibly bed
bugs but moreso mosquitos and ants. Please keep my teammates in your prayers
too as we are all battling little bugs in our system, mostly colds and
allergies.
Thanks for all of your prayers and support. I don’t
really have time this month to check emails or my support account or anything
other than upload blogs, so if I don’t respond to personal emails for several
weeks, that would be why. I should be back in Santo Domingo, DR around Feb 22nd
so hopefully toward the end of the month I can respond to emails.
Love you all. Miss you. God bless.
P.S. I strongly encourage you to read my teammates blogs
(Team Gentle Warriors) and also Team Spectacle’s blogs b/c we are teamed up
with them here in Jacmel this month. You will get a full picture of where we
are and what we are doing and all of the adventures we have had thus far by
reading all of our blogs and not just mine. So, please look them up on the website.
