People always ask me,
How are you really going to be able to make a difference?
My response is that I am going into the nations to teach people, love people, motivate people, and to serve people. Keeping score of how many people's lives I make a difference in, or how many people I win over to Christ, is NOT on my agenda.
My hopes are to instill encouragment, hope, faith, and love into the people I encounter. Even If I only make a difference in one person's life, a spark of change has been ignited; it is a domino effect. So while I can't change the world, I can create a chain.
Having materialistic things do not define being fortunate, although defining it has become a common "Americanized Christian" theme. I want to go into the world to share the wealth of knowing Jesus Christ, and to movtivate those who define having "things" as fortunate. That is the furthest from the truth.
Yes, we will also be planting churches, painting, and giving "things" to these people, but the most important aspect of my ministry is to share the joy of Jesus. I have known plenty of people with a ton of money who claimed money does NOT make you happy, and you always feel a sense of wanting more. This is where many weathly Americans have become the unfortunate ones.
To see a child in a third-world country laugh and dance around with family members praising God is the most humbling experience in the world. I often ask,
Are we the unfortunate ones?
We need to define and reevaluate what fortune is and run after the truth.
My point is this: I want to serve, to ignite change (even if in only one person), and to spread the good news. I want to reflect on what I see and maybe even have a change of heart and way of thinking within myself. I cannot help change the world unless I am also changed.
I want to love on the people of the world, and show them the joy of community, love, and kindness. Where is there hope, if we cannot show them?
