A very wise man once said, “No man is an island.”  I don’t know who that man was, but this dude knows what he is talking about.  No man should live cut off from other people, it’s not how God intended us to live!  I don’t pretend to be an introvert, but I would be confident in saying that if we did not have deep friendships in our lives, we would be missing out on something truly valuable and life-giving.

I once saw a Twilight Zone where a man was condemned to life in prison.  His prison did not consist of a bed, a sink and some bars, however.  It was set in the future where criminals were banished to a different planet.  He lived life completely and utterly alone.  When his food rations were brought by astronauts, he was dizzy with excitement at the thought of contact with another human being.

We were not meant to live life alone.

I love that when God created the earth, the first thought at the sight of the first man he made was that he needed a companion.  He created the institution of friendship that we all are so blessed to take part in.  I am so reminded of the beauty in friendship as I just came back from spending four glorious days with my friend Cherie.  One of the qualities I value most in a friend is loyalty.  I have been blessed with so many loyal friends in my life, and Cherie is one amazing and loyal gal.  She flew me out to Arizona to see her one last time before I leave for the World Race next year.  She sacrificed time, money and sleep (LOTS of lost sleep!).

I don’t know where or how you choose your friends or how it is that you stay friends with some for long periods of time and lose some friends along the way.  But Cherie and I will be friends until the day we die.  We laugh, we cry and we do all those silly girl things.  But at the end of the day, I pray you are blessed with a friend like her!  I thank God for friendship, because when it is done in a healthy way, it brings such glory to His name!

Check out this sweet pic from our time in Cali!!  This was taken right after we drove 7 hours to L.A. to see The Price is Right.  Even though we didn’t win anything (even with our SPARKLING personalities) we had a blast!
