Guatemala!
Hello. After three days of launch, a two mile hike with 63
pounds of gear, a 20 minute bus ride, a half hour train ride, a shuttle, a
night in the airport, and a three hour flight… I am now officially a world racer! And I am out on the mission
field in Chimaltenango, Guatemala at
an orphanage/school for disabled orphans. (You can check out the website and
read profiles about each child here: http://losgozosos.org/LosGozosos/Welcome.html).
We’ve only been here a few days, but already I can tell you
that we are so so so blessed! A few reasons why:
–
We have a shower with warm water!
–
We have not only one washer, but TWO!
–
The weather (during the day) is absolutely
brilliant. Mid 70s and sunny
–
We have FREE WIFI
–
There’s a beautiful view of the mountains
outside of our complex
Here is a rundown of what we’ve been and will be doing this
month:
–
First and foremost, helping to care for the
children, though at all times there are three nannies who care for the
children, wash clothes and cook the food. Our responsibilities include:
Bathing
them and dressing them
Playing
with them
Helping
to feed them
Singing
with them during prayer time
Helping
some learn to walk, and the others learn other life skills
I
think we will also be helping with school once it starts on Monday
–
Since not all of us are needed to help with the
kids, we also are doing a lot of manual labor to help out such as using a wheel
barrel to move all of the dirt to the driveway
–
Using a machete to chop down an entire field so
that thieves cannot hide in the brush
–
Painting bookshelves and a mural on the wall
I’m sure more jobs will pop up as we go, but that’s a good
rundown for now. Below are a bunch of photos, mostly of the living area where
we are.
This is Casey playing guitar for some of the girls.

This is Hosanna playing guitar.

This is where we eat.
This is the yard.
One of the three bathrooms, also where we shower.
This is where my tent is!
For more photos, check out my facebook page here: http://alturl.com/tnwxj (I think everyone, regardless of whether they have facebook or if they’re my friend can see them. If not… I will have to learn to do that).
That’s all for now!
