After much anticipation, I finally know who my team is for the World Race! Our teams were formed through a long process of team-building activities, personality tests, individual feedback, and observations of the staff. We were given our teams on the Thursday of training camp and were told to “make a memory” with them that afternoon.

Our team decided that one of our main focuses of the day would be food :). We lived on a small amount of food for the week, most of which was less than appetizing. So, when given the chance to leave camp, we all jumped at the opportunity to have a nice meal. After piling into our mini-van, we drove the short distance to Cartersville, GA. Our first stop of the day was at Bruster’s ice cream. We weren’t given anything sweet during the first part of training camp so ice cream was a perfect choice.

After eating at Bruster’s, we drove to downtown Cartersville and explored the quaint town on foot. We went into a small outdoors store called Blue Sky and rummaged through the selection of clothes and shoes. We were able to share about the World Race with the sales associate that was in his early 20’s, and gave him our blog address so he could follow our journey.

After making our purchases at Blue Sky, we continued the exploration of downtown Cartersville and stumbled upon a cute little restaurant called The City Cellar and Loft. Upon entering the restaurant, the owner walked up and greeted us. Bob asked us where we were from, and after the rather puzzled look on his face passed, questioned how we all met since we are each from a different state. We explained the World Race and spoke with him for awhile about what countries we will be going to. Bob was very kind, as well as was our waitress, the cook, and all of the other employees. We felt very welcomed and encouraged at The City. While we were eating, Bob sat with us and showed us an illustration of arriving at the gates of Heaven and waiting to see if God would let us in. After filling up on an amazing meal and “get to know you conversation” amongst our team, we took pictures with Bob and gave him our blog addresses.

Our team felt like our first day together was very successful, and also felt blessed that we met so many great people within a few hours. We picked the name City Lights because our meal at The City Cellar and Loft set the tone for the next year that we will spend together. Matthew 5:14-16 says,  “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven”. Even in the craziness of this world, we refuse to let our lights grow dim. So, without further ado…meet Team City Lights!
