Hello readers,
When I was contemplating what I should write my first blog post about, my mom suddenly popped her head in from the other room and shouted, “Hey! I wonder if Weston’s backpack is still here from when he did the World Race?”
After digging around for a couple of minutes, we found it! The odor that emitted from his backpack was a beautiful combination of sweat, body odor, and other lovely smells that this backpack absorbed over its 11 month journey.
When my brother went on the World Race, his 11 countries were; Guatemala, Nicaragua, Thailand, Cambodia, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Romania, Greece, Moldova, Ukraine, and Ireland.
Hearing my brother’s stories of adventure, travel, and eye opening experiences is what prompted me to consider going on the World Race in the first place.
Then it hit me. This is the backpack I am going to use on my World Race. This is now my backpack! For a World Racer, their backpack serves as a vessel to hold everything they may need while they are on the field. Such items could include; clothes, pictures of loved ones, even a deck of cards. The contents in each backpack are different for each Racer. But beyond the material objects within the backpack are the places it has been and the stories it could tell.
The countries I will visit on my route are; Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. At the end of my route, this backpack will have been to 20 different countries.
Words cannot express how excited I am for this adventure of a lifetime. I know God is going to transform me in ways I cannot imagine. One Belkot brother conquered the World Race; let’s make it two! And you know what, I think this backpack is down for another World Race adventure, too! 🙂
With much love,
Spencer
