The day in the life of Sinamon Meyer – Cambodia

I know it’s kind of late since I leave Cambodia on Monday night but I thought it would be fun to do a “Day in the Life” blog. This way you can get an idea of what I’ve been doing everyday for the last month.

Each morning two people from our team wake up to go to the market and buy breakfast. I’m not going to lie… at first it was very stressful for me to go. There’s just so much going on and it was hard to find what we wanted but after some time it’s gotten much easier.

refrigeration is so overrated

Believe it or not eight of us can eat breakfast for about $2. Which is awesome considering we only have $3 a day/per person for food.

We usually get two pineapples from this lady.

This morning we tried some muffins from this lady. She puts the batter in the pot below and then places hot coals on top to cook them. They were dry so we haven’t gone back.

After breakfast we hop in our usual tuk tuk and head to ministry which is about a 15 minute drive from where we are staying. This is mine and Jenny’s favorite time. We do a little something called “Ipod Alone Time”. During our morning ride we chose to ride in silence and listen to music that will inspire us for the day.

You never know what you’re going to see on the ride. People on bicycles. Monks on motos.

I can’t take any pictures at our ministry for the safety of the women and men who are there, which is completely understandable but I hate that I can’t take some pictures of the sweet little faces I get to spend my day with in the nursery. From 9-11:30am I hang out (with Jenny) in the nursery. Lunch is from 11:30-1:30pm. We usually pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, crackers and bananas but this day we didn’t get groceries the night before so we decided to go to the mall and eat KFC. After lunch we went to the store to buy groceries.

Natasha and I driving back from the mall on our lunch break.

After lunch we have an our of prayer time in the prayer room at Daughters. It’s such an awesome room/idea that I’m most definitely going to have something like that in my dream home.

We get back from ministry around 4:30pm. This day Natasha wanted to go to Jacob’s Well to work on blogging and uploading pictures from our weekend in Siem Reap. I went with her and prayed that my computer would work long enough for me to send out a quick update. I also got a super awesome brownie with chocolate icing.

My computer didn’t work very long. This is a picture of me slamming it against the table.

Side note: I took it into the computer shop the next day (for the second time) and they were actually able to fix it. Praise God!

At the end of our street there is a little makeshift restaurant that sets up every night. We all they serve is fried rice and noodles. You can chose pork or beef or just vegetables. It’s pretty awesome for $1.25. Liza is the woman who runs it (she’s on the right). We have nicknamed the place Liza’s Noodle bar

In the middle of eating I realized I forgot to take a picture of my food so I took one of Anna and Julia’s.

Every night we get together for prayer and feedback. This is in Julia, Jenny and Merridith’s room. We usually laugh a ton during this time and talk about our day. Since Jenny and I work in the nursery we always end up talking about the babies. We feel like two housewives who only talk about their children, lol.

And that is what a typical day looks like for me in Cambodia.
