I am Silas, an 18 year old boy who is incredibly excited about World Race Gap Year. I am the oldest of three. I have two younger sisters; Koby and Abbie. My parents are Pete and Judy. I have lived in West Michigan my whole life. I have always been involved with my church, which I have attended since before, yes, before I was born. I have gone on several mission trips, and love mission work. So far, everything I have done to serve God has been comfortable. Until now. I first heard about World Race from Sam VanderMolen, who is also doing Gap Year. We go to church together, and she mentioned that she was planning on doing a nine-month mission trip after high school. At first I thought she was crazy, but the more I learned about the trip, the more I realized that I was being called to do the same thing. Since being accepted to World Race, God has continued to test me in ways I have never been tested before. My biggest test of faith right now is fundraising. The amount of money to raise is large, and I still can’t see how it will work. But I have learned that I don’t need to see how it will work. I just need to trust that God will make it work. I know that because He called me to this, He will provide a way for me to go. Honestly I just can’t wait to get out into the field and serve God. I feel incredibly blessed to have been given this opportunity.
