Normally every month we get to have one day a week which is considered our free day. We usually try to take advantage of this day to see or do something fun or simply go on an adventure. We have been snorkeling in the Philippines, spelunking in Malaysia, elephant riding in Thailand, temple ruins exploring in Cambodia and have gone on many other smaller excursions to see and experience the local sights and cultures.
This month we had the opportunity to climb some rocks, check out a waterfall, and see hippos at Lake Victoria. Our most memorable time was going to Lake Victoria with 5 of our contacts. We had an awesome time hiring a boat to take us around the lake and accomplished what I wanted to do most, see some hippos.

After checking out the hippos, we drove for a bit, trying to find a beach or an area that we could go swimming. We were directed to a location where some men told us that they knew of a sand beach on an island that they would be willing to take us to. We all were pretty excited and so we hired them to take us to the beach.
After riding in the boat for 20 min or so, they pull the boat into some vegetation on the side of the lake and told us that this was the spot. We all looked at each other completely confused by what was going on. Wondering if something had gotten lost in translation, we told them once again that we wanted to go to a beach and the men told us that we had arrived at the sand beach. They then proceeded to tell us that the beach was underwater. We just looked at each other and all we could say was what the heck.
At this point we couldn’t help but laugh and try to do best with the situation we were in. They told us to just jump out of the boat and so we all did. Sure enough, the bottom of the lake was sand in that location and so we ended up swimming for about an hour. It ended up being a ton of fun and we laughed the whole way back about the secret beach at Lake Victoria.
